Dekopon,a type of citrus fruit Grown in Japan
【Product Description】
Dekopon (Shiranui) is a popular Japanese citrus created by crossing
Kiyomi tangor with Ponkan. It’s seedless and easy to eat, with high
sugar content, a well-balanced sweet-and-tart flavor, and a delightful fragrance.
It has a knob-like “deko” bump on its top, which is why it’s called “Dekopon.”
The cultivar’s official name is “Shiranui,”
and we ship it labeled as either Dekopon or Shiranui.
Its season is long—running from December through May—and in
Japan it is prized both for everyday enjoyment and as a gift.
Best time to eat: After harvest, the fruit is stored for
about 20–40 days to ripen and mellow before it is shipped.
Main producing regions: Kumamoto, Ehime, Wakayama, Saga,
Nagasaki, Kagoshima, and Fukuoka prefectures.
【A premium citrus fruit loved overseas】
Overseas, it has been gaining recognition in North America and
Asia under the names “Shiranui” and “Sumo Citrus.”
